sit in my pile, all of them half read. I used to think a book I didn’t trudge through meant it was not worth reading for me…then I realized sometimes its all about timing, so I keep going. It’s summer now, I am still working on The Book of Flying…Dreamers of the Day AND Galileo’s Daughter, but I WILL finish them before the end of the summer, kinda stretching the goal but it should average out. Is that cheating? Guess since its my goal I can work it…here’s to finishing up 3 things I have already started!

Ok, so every 2 weeks is a bit much these days but I did finally finish Children of God, the sequel to The Sparrow and I gladly recommend it for all of those out there looking for a great way to feed your philosophical/ethical drives and be entertained as well. Next up, Overcoming Life’s Disappointments by Rabbi Kushner…and At Knit’s End, Meditations For Women Who Knit Too Much. YAY!
and well worth the read. Glad I finished it up cause it didn’t end how I would have expected at all…which made me feel even better. Hesse can do no wrong in my eyes.
Journey to the East by Herman Hesse. I didn’t learn of this book until recently and I thought I had read everything by him. It’s a quick read but I find myself not finishing it becuase I really don’t want it to end. I want to know what happens but…not really. Well, looking forward to the next one…I give this a thumbs up though, for sure!
So, I read The Sparrow and couldn’t believe how much I loved it. Then Mom told me there was a sequel and that I didn’t NEED to read it but would be very interested if I did…so before I could even finish Falun Dafa (have since finished and enjoyed) I picked up Children of God and I am already blown away and only on page 83 or so. I can not believe this author…if you are looking for a great great read, check out Mary Doria Russel…and start with The Sparrow! Loving this new genre!!!
Just finished this book, a fabulous read about morality and theology…truly well crafted and beautifully written. If you are looking for a book that urges you to question your current thinking processes with regard to religion, morality, ethics, etc…check it out. Next up, Falun Dafa…peace~
This book is so not anything I would have picked up on my own…a sci-fi book on inter-planetary travel and “alien” life forms…but Mom IS always right when it comes to books and I am so loving this one! Its all about the moral imperative and life and takes a good long existential look at life. If anyone out there is looking for a different kind of read that guarentees one to think, check it out. I would LOVE to chat with others about it! Cheers to all the readers!
Did I hit the jackpot this weekend!!! I finished up The Patron Saint of Liars by Anne Patchett which was fabulous. I usually go for a certain type of book and this was totally NOT in that genre but I really enjoyed it and can say no more for fear of giving anything away…then I read Eleven Minutes by Paolo Cuehlo (sp?) and that was great too! Thank God I have a Mother who loves a good book…if not for her I have no idea what kind of crap I might sink my brain into. Next up…The Sparrow…can’t wait!
This is my current read, gonna finish up this weekend and can already recommend it to anyone looking for a great read. It reminds me of Cider House Rules to a degree…but different and beautiful in its own way. Anne Patchett can surely write!!!
”... I now possessed a large number of varied and decidedly wonderful friends, whom I valued immeasurably. Through them I discovered what is was to love people. There was an art to it, I discovered, which was not really all that different from the love that is necessary in the making of art. It required the effort of always seeing them for themselves and not as I wished them to be, of always striving to see the truth of them.” These are the relationships I strive for…this book is true beauty.
