Trace my family tree

I scanned the entries of other 43T’ers with this goal and saw a references to Ancestry.com so I checked it out. What a great site!

I already have the names/dates typed up from my 1st go-round on this project so I printed it out and have been entering everything.

This is going to make a huge difference helping me get this project done. I can’t wait to add photos!

Last night, I borrowed a few photo albums for pics of me(see “get to know my parents better”). We had to take many albums out of the closet and my mom found one we put together years ago. It had loads of loose old pics – hers, her mother’s, from her dad’s travels out west at the turn of the LAST century. At that time, we wrote names on the back or put little slips of paper in the sleeve. I guess I knew it would be important in the future!

I told mom and dad we’d be going thru all of it very soon. I also said I’d borrow some and start scanning them. Many of them are breaking apart – they are more than 100 years old! – so hopefully the scanning with help.

I think they’re looking forward to this project as much as I am!

..not researching it on the web, just from stories, pictures, documenting the actual “tree”. I was doing this for both sides. I even went to 2 old cemeteries where my great and great-great are resting. My parents were totally into it too.

On Sunday, when I was cleaning out one of my closets, I found the work I’d done. I realized it was time to start doing this again.

I tend to be the keeper of old family pictures and documents. I have my great-parents wedding announcement framed plus other cool stuff. I enjoy thinking about the connection between generations. Where did we come from? What were they like?

I need to get back into this, while my parents are both still able. Our family is not big and after they are gone, there will be very few people around to tell me these stories.

Plus, this will help with my other goals of getting to know my parents better. I also want to do this for my niece and nephew. They deserve to know about their family.

I mentioned to my dad that I was going to start it up again. I will go see them this week to talk about it.
