Year in Review 17 hours ago

I like the “Year in Review” function the ‘Bots added.

I’m a numbers person so it suits me. I like what numbers show me and I like seeing the results of my actions, especially since I tend to need a reminder of what I’ve accomplished.

My most successful month was October with 7 goals completed (I remember 1: buy a new car) and my most active month (entry and cheer-wise) was August (what was I so busy writing?). Thanks for the info; I’ll have to go back to revisit 2009. Don’t you wish we could do that on other things?

Here’s to a active and productive 2010!

Rest in peace 2 weeks ago

I am so sad for my friend Wren and Mr. Wren for the loss of Sadie.

I have no words to ease her pain. I can only pray the memories of the wonderful times that she shared with Sadie will be a comfort today and always.

Rest in Peace sweet Sadie.

I am grateful for these things 3 weeks ago

As we all do this time of year, we’re reminded to give thanks, to look at the good in our lives and be grateful for it.

I am grateful…

for the special people in my life – may they always be there.
for my friends – old and new, near and far, “live” and cyber.
for the personal growth that has taken place over the past year and the vision of even greater growth through the next.
for good health for my family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
for remembering I am not in control of anyone’s actions but my own.
for my freedoms, may I never take them for granted
for the little things that remind me to slow down in order to see them.
for compassion from/for others.
for faith and fellowship
for learning to be open to change and new ideas
for saying YES to life, feeling Younger
for all of you who make a difference on a regular basis!
Peace Be With You All!

Highs and Lows 2 months ago

Saturday was a great day. I helped arrange another high school get-together. We had 20 plus people, BYO food, laughing, drinking, reminiscing. It’s a different mix of people every time but we always mesh and the party is always great. It still makes me smile to think of the day and the people I was with.

Sunday was not as good. I received a phone call that the son of a friend had passed away during the night. The young man – and I mean young, only 24 – had multiple dystrophy. He didn’t develop any symptoms until the age of 8-9. Despite his ailments, he finished high school and attended college. Truly an inspirational young man.

However, 2009 did not go well for him. He had pneumonia during the summer and just 2 weeks ago, suffered a stroke. His mother, my friend, stayed with him round the clock in the hospital. She did whatever needed to be done for her son’s care for years. She is an amazingly strong woman.

It’s going to be a difficult week but as always, these highs and lows are part of life and make us appreciate what we have while we have it.

Gone Fishin' 2 months ago

I feel like I’ve been neglecting 43T. I have been pretty busy this month and now that it’s winding down, so am I.

I went away for a a few days 2 weeks ago, on a retreat with some friends. It was sponsored by the organization I’ve been involved in. What a lovely time. A lot of talking, walking in the woods, game playing – and very little sleep. I learned a little about myself in the process which is always a good thing.

Last week, I resolved a medical issue I’d been dealing with for way too long – I had a tooth pulled. It wasn’t terrible but it kept me home from work for a day (also not terrible!). The pain was tolerable (with a help for a little pill or 2)and soft food for 2 days was not difficult either. I’m glad I finally got it taken care of.

I think right now I feel like I’m in limbo. I feel like I dealt with some big stuff recently (new mattress, tooth, car search) and there’s nothing new on the horizon. Not that I don’t have other things that need doing (I’ve always go a To Do list going) but nothing special or challenging (or stressful!)

A friend pointed out that it’s OK to have down-time – I’m just not used to it. Maybe that’s the idea – I need to recognize it, feel it and accept down time because it doesn’t happen often.

Just posting here helps me “talk” it thru. I need to remember that. Like the goal says – post random thoughts. It works.

Cheers 3 months ago

I just noticed I’m 17 cheers away from giving 5,000 cheers.
That put a big smile on my face today – I love this site.

Ted Kennedy 3 months ago

I watched Ted Kennedy’s funeral Mass today. Beautiful words spoken by his sons and President Obama.

I was reminded of what he dealt with – the loss of 2 siblings while a teenager, 2 brothers murdered, a few nephews lost to drugs, 1 son with cancer, another with severe heath issues, helping to raise scores of nieces and nephews.

Politics aside – his life was about family. As it should be. That’s how you make an impact in the world.

The loss of a wonderful teacher 4 months ago

http://www.northjersey.com/obituaries/Beulah_W_Warshaw_actress_and_teacher_88.html

This was one of my high school English teachers (with Tina Fey).
She was a really good one and will be missed.
Who knew she had another life?

Bye-bye Beulah.
