Well, there is a manager that might be on his way out and I think I would make a perfect replacement.
If anything, I’m a natural born leader and I have a way of getting people to do things and see things my way, which is good…at work anyway…
Only issue is that the hours are until 4pm and I’m concerned that 2 hours between class and a long commute is not enough time.

I haven’t made much headway in the last few month, I still don’t know when my contract expires with my current company (so I can at least get a raise because I am at my salary cap right now).
I’m on a waiting list for a civil service job as well…

Done and done

Today was the day of my civil service exam for project manager. There were 80 questions in all and I was confident on at least 75 of them, so-so on maybe 3 questions and took a stab at 2 of them.
All in all I am looking forward to a score in the 90s, but a 100% would be nice! I should have the results in 4-5 weeks.

I wrote over a year ago about an opening in Manhattan, that never materialized. We had an opening again in the Bronx and it doesn’t look like that’s happening either.
It seems I’ve hit the ceiling in my company, so I’ve started searching for new jobs. I plan on taking the civil service test for project manager for the Department of Design and Construction.

Right now I’m working in the Bronx, which isn’t exactly glamorous, but I really like it. I’m used to it, I know the roads, and I know the people.
However, my boss let me know that there has been an opening in our Manhattan yard and he put my name into the running. It will include:
- A $20,000 salary increase!
- A company car
- More responsibilities (of course)
- The opportunity to get more over-time
I am definitely interested in the position and would take it in a heart beat if I get it. From what I understand I have a good chance, but it’s not 100% – so I won’t get my hopes up too high.
PS: I will definitely be moving to Manhattan if I get the job.

I saved my company $40k-$60k in time and materials by being pro-active and taking initiative.
The message was relayed to the “big boss” and he was impressed.
This looks good for me.

I have a big job coming up soon.
There are a few things I need to make sure that I do while I’m working on this job:
- Make sure I’m up by at least 5:15AM and out the door by 5:45AM
- Get to my location before 7:00AM to check it out first
- Have all my locations marked out right after the walk-thru
- Talk to the foreman and convey my zero damage policy
