I came across a grant to help pay for EMT’s working in Rual areas to become Paramedics. I brought this up with my Capt. and he told me that our dept. is a member with this organization, and that this was the grant used to put some of the current EMT’s into Paramedic school. Once I’ve been at my dept. for six months (a prerequsite for the grant), I can speak with my capt. about applying for the grant and having the county cover what the grant doesn’t. It to soon to tell right now, but I’ve already been with the dept. for over 3 months, so in another 3, if our budget is up to it, I may be able to apply and get all of my school paid for. Or, at least 2/3 of the cost covered if I get the grant and the county wants me to get my cert., but doesn’t have the money to pay the rest. Either way, 2010 seems to deffinately be the year I will be able to start Paramedic School!

I’m currently a FF/EMT, working for a Fire Rescue Dept. There is a good shot of having my Paramedic school paid for by my employer and I’ve decided that becoming a Paramedic is a serious goal of mine, and that it is necessary to get the most out of my career. Tomorrow, I’m going into work and asking my Chief if the dept. will be willing to pay for my school. We’ll see were this goes.
