I live 6 miles from were I work, and for the exception of a couple hundred feet, almost the entire distance is covered by a nice paved bike trail that is off from the road and well maintained. I’ve been working at my current station for almost 2 years now, and never tried commute biking. I’ve ridden the distance before and it only takes a little more time to do it on bike.
I found out I’m getting a very nice used bike for my birthday next month, and now I think it’ll be a good time to start biking to work.
I used to do a lot of running on my days off, but since we started trying at home daycare for my son, a lot of the spare time I used to train has been taken up. By biking to work I figure I’ll get some of that time back. The only real cost to me is getting out of the house a little earlier, but at the benefit of starting my day off with a 6 mile ride under my belt, two out of three days, and saving just a little extra on gas.
I’m really looking forward to this goal. :)
