I’ve been thinking about doing this for a few months now, and I finally decided to start. My goal is to finish by the end of the year. I haven’t counted how many I have so far, but when I finish my current supply of origami paper, I’ll have made 115.
I know that the story is that folding 1000 cranes means a wish will come true, and my wish (actually a goal, because it’s something I’ll have to actively work on), is to overcome my disordered eating habits and negative body image. Folding these cranes, somehow, goes hand in hand with my journey to be able to eat like a normal person.
I feel like working on the cranes is the peaceful, centering aspect that will counter the tumultuous roller coaster I’ve been going through lately as I try to get in touch with the emotional issues I’ve been avoiding for so long.
