Out of my four hives, one ended up being queenless for some reason. I took two frames from a stronger hive, placed them in the weak one, and they did indeed make a queen cell, and something did indeed come out of it. Apparently, though, she didn’t survive either, because I’ve yet to lay eyes on her or any new “babies.” Therefore, I won’t count this accomplished just yet.

My one hive (out of five) that survived the winter is still around, but they’re pretty lethargic. I’m supposed to help one of my beekeeping mentors extract a small group of bees from a tree tonight, so I plan to pick his brain about what I can do with my current hive to get them in shape for winter. And here’s a photo of another of my mentors marking a queen that he raised.
