I know that the web is groaning from the weight of the blogs piled on it, but since I’m a strongly solitary artist who needs feedback as much as the next creative person, I’ve started the effort of blogging. At this point I’ve written a few posts (as yet unpublished) and I’m trying to work out how to make idea generation and writing a regular effort so that my blog – once it goes live – won’t suffer from neglect. I also plan to display my artworks (I’ll tie this to my drawing-a-day “thing”).
My main reason for starting the blog isn’t for artistic feedback, it’s to write about the successes, failures, pitfalls, and insecurities which I’ve enjoyed and endured in making the attempt to be a professional artist. It’s tough to go through the negatives and not have anyone around who has tried something similar to help keep your morale from being completely destroyed. I’m going to the web for community but also because I feel that I have sober words of encouragement to share with other creative types who may be feeling like chucking it all in (as I’ve done a half-dozen times).
Also, I like to discuss other artists (historically), and artistic styles and periods, and since none of my current friends are artists, it’s a tad difficult to get them interested in that sort of conversation. :-)
