Quit coloring my hair and grow out my gray

I don’t want visible roots, so about six months ago, I switched to a semi-permanent rinse, so my color only lasts about a month now. So, I do that and am waiting for it to grow out. Once it’s all grown out, I want to wear it natural most of the time, but from time to time put in a punk rock semi-permanent rinse. No bleaching, all color. I just imagine my black hair with, say, turquoise strands and think it sounds dreamy. I’m only a few inches into this but really determined to get out from under the drag that is coloring hair because I thought I “had” to. Blah!
