This was a great exercise that forced me to really become aware of my spending habits. Shopping at independent stores just basically requires planning. You might pay a bit more here and there, but when you become more aware of what you are spending you tend to not waste so much either. For me, in particular, I had to plan when to shop too. I work 9:30-6:00 and find that most indies are only open during those hours. Bummer.
Thanks PH for including us all in this goal.

I noticed that its pretty easy for most people to purchase from small shops items such as food, etc. However, I don’t know where to shop for clothing or housewares if not at the big stores. Suggestions?

No major purchases, but what I did make was done at indie shops. I did want to buy a pair of trousers that are at M&S, but I’ll wait the two weeks and see if I still “need” them by then.

Does Lidl count as a big or little shop? I like the level of service you get with the Mom&Pop places. I have a great array of independent little stores that are in my neighborhood, and they are usually the ones that I shop at. I do go out of my way to shop at Oxfam for my used books, though. Oooh, the farmers market is a great place for weekend shopping too.
