collage

I moved to NOLA last year before I could start this. While there I started a smaller version and made a fair amount of progress. Then I moved rather suddenly when hurricane Ike came through and had to leave it behind. I’ve started a new one though and am quite excited to see how it turns out.

I was over at a friends house for the first time a couple weeks ago. across the room I saw what at first appeared to be an Indian tapestry or maybe a painting. Upon further inspection I discovered that it was a collage. But that’s not the part that struck me. What was amazing about it was this. The background was entirely made up of the gold foil inserts from cigarette packs. and all the other elements were from beer and wine labels!! Yet overall it had a very “Indian” motif as far as the arrangement and colours. I decided I had to make one myself. So far I’ve just been collecting foils and gathering other materials. I got a frame to put it in when I’m done. Still looking for a piece of poster board to do it on though.
