omigosh. i know.
i do this too & have been trying to quit for years.
its just so hard & even when i am successful for a long period of time, i find myself doing it again, not by my own will, but just sort of automatically! ughh. its extremely annoying, stating the obvious.
the thing i hate the most about chewing the little taste buds off my tongue is the “after-effect” when all this white dead skin tissue is just sitting there on your tongues surface and you have bad breath. then you want to bite off all the white dead tissue so you dont look weird if someone sees your tongue.
not too long ago, i used to bite both my tongue AND the inside of my cheeks as well, and in very very rare occassions find myself doing that again. but i stopped, knowing that the tongue heals faster than the cheek tissue & i guess i just switched over to just biting my tongue.
still, i need to stop.
i pray about it & chew gum alot & my mom always gets onto me about it all the time. my dad has some form of OCD, so i wonder if i somehow picked that up genetically?
like many other people have posted, i have those wrinkle things that run from the bottom sides of my nose to the outside of my mouth, resulting from the chewing. and im only FIFTEEN!!
i agree how its completely idiotic WHy exactly we do it, especially since it hurts like a mother, even moreso the next day. i want to quit extremely bad now, mainly because i heard it can cause cancer!
..anyways. i dont know what else to say, except good luck to all you out there trying to quit; we’ll find some way!
also, thank you for the tips Bluedog20! lets hope they work! =)
