I’ve edited this goal slightly – turns out I won’t be homeless after all, my mum’s offering me the trip as a 21st birthday gift. So I will be going, but I’ll have a place to stay and some money to spend.

I’m very far from home during the school year (think thousands of miles) so it’s not feasible to fly home for a 4-day holiday that we don’t even celebrate – and that most people don’t know exist – where I’m from.
I usually end up staying at a hotel the school puts us in, at a heavily discounted rate. Still, it’s boring as hell and I hate telling my friends that I spent Thanksgiving cooped up in a hotel room.
This year I plan to take the bus to New York City (I’m in Boston) and just wander around for a couple of days before heading back when the dorms re-open. It will be cheaper than the hotel (even discounted) and I’ll probably collect much more interesting stories than on an empty campus. Besides, how cool is it to say that you spent 2 days in one of the most buzzing cities in the world literally homeless and had the time of your life? I plan to travel really light and at night haunt places that are open 24/7.
