have people over for dinner more often

I sent out a note that invited family and friends over for a celebration on January 25th of next year. My motivation was to set a date, send it out, and decrease the opportunity to come up with excuses. In one month, we’ll be working on it even more. Our intent for 2008 – love as an action verb.

I’m not there yet, but I’m making progress. Last week I had some folks over, served a great salad, had coffee, and we made cards for a few hours. Most of the time was spent chatting and snacking – but it gave me a glimmer of hope about a future dinner party. I also contacted my sorority sisters to plan a reunion this Summer. I’m just moving forward to be intentional about spending time with folks. Any situation that reinforces that – I’ll consider it a win.

will come tomorrow (1/24) and I have still not managed to plan a dinner party. I thought this was going to be the year. So…I’m going to have to go to plan B. Not like it has to be hoopla in order to have people over – but I do like to do things in a way that I like to do them. Hmmmm…..this speaks to the things we say are important but don’t seem to prioritize. I’m so guilty of that. Now, here is to IPOP – a year of intentional progress over perfection. I hope the next time I write its after the dinner party, not after missing the boat yet again.

Today we had friends over for a few hours – with no great agenda. We cleaned the bathroom and straightened the kitchen – two of my big pet peeves …. but other than that, nothing special. We ate Christmas cookies, looked at photo albums, let the kids be kids and dress as superheroes, and it was all impromptu. I want to be the mother, wife, woman – who is okay with just doing what feels good sometimes. I had work to do. My laundry is at least 2 days behind – and the folding is about 3. But….the bathroom smelled great, the entire down stairs was pleasant, neat and acceptable ….most importantly, I was able to enjoy the company. Hip, Hip Horray.

I think I’m hosting a dinner party for my birthday….to celebrate life and friendship, even with very little “party furniture” to speak of – I think I’m going to get over it and have some folks over.
