Is to just go and weed the allottment over the autumn+winter and prepare it to start growing at the beginning of next spring. We’re gonna put our all into it next time round as we should have a lot more time on our hands hopefully!

Carrots were a no-show
Peas were eaten by slugs/snails
No sign of lettuce either
Salad leaves have probably been eaten too by now as we haven’t had a chance to go to the allottment :( sigh damn working ourselves into the ground!!!
Last week, Andy and I planted peas, lettuce, salad leaves and carrots. Miriam also planted a blueberry bush.
Fingers crossed now that we’ll see some shoots in the next week or so!
Andy, Miriam and I have cut back the hedge by a few feet and begun the weeding. Andy and I also bought some seeds :D Can’t wait for us to get the time to work on the allotment more and get planting!!!
I helped Nanna grow all sorts of fruit and veg in the garden as I grew up, but a couple of years back she grassed over the veg bed as she’s starting to get a bit wobbley (at 82 it’s not surprising!) I’ve missed digging up potatoes, shelling peas, watering the garden etc. so imagine my joy when…
I stumbled across an ad for an allotment space on Freecycle Hertford the other day. I emailed the guy that posted it up and he told me that it’s approx. 25×15ft!!!
We’re gonna arrange a time for the guys and I to go round and check it out, but I’m pretty certain we’ll take it :)
As a result I’ve spent a lot of time on gardenaction.co.uk, writing down how to grow a few veggies I’d like. My list is 2sides of A4 in my usual small squishy writing.
I’ve written down about: potatoes, peas, carrots, onions (for Ben), sweetcorn, lettuce, tomatoes and runner beans and a bit about basil and oregano at the bottom as it’d be nice to grow my own as I use so much of them in my cooking! I’ve also taken note of the need for quite a few marigold plants for attracting ladybirds, which will lower the amount of aphids etc. trying to eat our veg lol!
Once I’ve seen the space I’ll be able to start planning out what will grow where best. Hehe! Am really excited! As were the guys when I told them the news :)
I can’t wait to get cracking now! Guess my wages will be going on seeds and compost lol! XD
