Tacking

I decided to tack (loosely stitch with modern cotton) my dress together… Except it didn’t want to stay together. I tried it on after tacking you see and when I came to take it off I heard the dreaded sounds of popping stitches. I don’t know whether I’d sewn my dress too small or whether I should’ve sewn it together a bit stronger. I managed to do this twice over.

... Once more, the pieces of my under-dress are folded up on my blanket box til I can face it again :(

Deep breath...

I started cutting out the basic shapes I need yesterday from the giant roll of linen with extra space for sewing and for it shrinking… It’s only the bloody same size as the giant tent of a dress that Andy got from Nath! (The giant friendly veggie who’s TUNIC it was previously)... I miss Nath. He even said if I have a major panic I could even ship the material and my measurements over to Canada so he’d do it! LOL! Bless him.

That’s as far as I got; just cutting out, coz I then panicked about how much it’s gonna shrink… Think I’m gonna wash it on 60deg.C today and THEN start sewing it together when I know what I’m dealing with. So yes, pre-cut body and sleeves, and material for gores, gussets and a coif going into machine!

Original measurements for body – 33”x71”
... And sleeves – 28”x14”/20” (the sleeves are tighter on the forearm and baggier on the upper).

Fingers crossed for the post-wash dimensions!

Eeks!

Got the material and the thread… Just gotta try my best to follow the instructions on Regia’s website. I don’t DO sewing whole items of clothing… I can repair odd bits and sew on buttons but it’s all by hand coz I’m awful on a machine!

Gonna be a few hours methinks.
