I’m giving up on this because hapkido seems to be a better choice for me.

I’m reconsidering. There are some more affordable alternatives, with which I could achieve my goal of getting better at unarmed fighting. For example, there is a MMA training group at my university and I could also start practicing Hapkido. They both would cost considerably less than the beginners course in muay thai.
I’ve been interested in martial arts since I was a little kid, but I never had the chance to practice any of them. About three months ago I started practicing kombatan, which is a Filipino martial art, and I’m very much into it. However, it is mainly a weapons-based fighting system and I feel like I don’t get enough practice in unarmed combat. It also seems to me that most of my training buddies have at least some experience in other martial arts besides kombatan.
So that’s the reason why I want to learn muay thai (aka thai boxing); I want to learn how to kick and punch properly. Kombatan is still going to be the number one martial art for me and muay thai will be a complement.
