I gave up on this some time ago

and I adopted two more specific goals (learn Spanish and learn Russian). Now I’ve studied Russian for more than a month and I will continue learning it for at least until the end of this academic year.

I'm changing this to more specific goals

From now on I want to learn Russian and Spanish.

Now I know what I'm going to do

The first priorities are keeping up my German and refreshing my Swedish. After that (maybe next year) I will start with Spanish and perhaps later I will try the basics of Russian.

I want to learn Russian

There are some Russian construction workers at my workplace and while listening to them talking, I realized that I really like the way how the Russian language sounds. That made me want to learn Russian and I’ll probably attend to a basic course after my exchange year. I find Russian quite exotic, because not many Finns can speak it and the Russian alphabet differs from the Finnish one. Being able to speak Russian would also be a nice addition to my CV.

Spanish? Russian? Chinese?

I like studying languages. Finnish is my native language, I am fluent in English, I have pretty good skills in Swedish and an okay knowledge of German. Because I now have the opportunity to learn languages for free at the university I’d like to learn yet another language. Any suggestions?

Spanish seems to be a very popular choice and it might be a useful language as well, because it is so widely spoken in South America. Knowing Russian could also be an advantage in the future when I try to get a job after graduation. The same goes for Chinese. Italian interests me because the swordsmanship style I practice is based on the writings of an Italian master. If I knew Italian, I could study the original manuals, which would be great.

So many choices…
