Yesterday I read an interview of an artist who was afraid that the significance of an album as a form of musical expression is vanishing. It was an interesting thought, because it’s true that nowadays during the age of digital music, it is so easy to pick an choose songs from a huge collection and arrange them into a playlist. However, many bands put a lot of effort in writing songs that fit into a certain theme and try to form them into a meaningful whole with specific track order, album covers and so on.

When listening to music, do you usually play whole albums or do you just pick the songs that you like the most?

Do you think it makes a difference if the song is taken out of context as opposed to listening to it as a part of a whole?
