Last night was the big donation to Locks of Love. I’d been ready for awhile so I didn’t feel any sadness or sense of loss over parting with my long tresses. It’s different though. I’d been growing my hair out for almost three years, and I’d certainly gotten used to how I look with long hair. It was also the longest my hair has ever been in my life by several inches so it’s quite a change to be back to barely shoulder length.
Audrey took it a little harder. I had her come with so she could witness it all and not get the shock of me suddenly walking through the door with short hair. After they cut the ponytail off they let her hold it and look it over for a minute. She got a few tears in her eyes and handed it back to me saying, “put it back on now.” Then during bedtime stories she reached up to touch my hair, sighed, and said, “I want your long hair back.” She was still a little iffy this morning, but I’m sure she’ll be used to my new look soon.
This is a goal I’ve had on my page since pretty much day one so it feels great to check this off and know I’ve done something nice for someone out there.
