Wrote 3 letters the other day (well, cards with long messages =) ). One to Grandma and Grandpa, as they wrote to me saying good luck in London =) One to my sister, just cos I found a funny card and thought she’d like it, and one to Clare cos it’s her birthday on tuesday =) Still need to write back to Heather!! I don’t have any writing paper, nor lone envelopes, that’s the trouble. Must buy some!

Yay! I love writing to people! =D

Heather wrote back! 16 months ago

Aww, I received a letter back from Heather today! I was sort of nervous to open it, for some reason! But I did and it was lovely =) She said my letter came just at the right time, as she was feeling a bit down in the dumps. Aw! She wrote about when we lived next to her and the things we used to do! Apparently I used to call over the fence from my bedroom window: ‘David! Can I tell you something?’ haha! And when our cat died we had a big procession around the garden with classical music playing, said a few words and laid him to rest. Everyone was crying except me, and later I said to Heather ‘I didn’t cry.’ I didn’t remember doing either of those things! I’m going to write back to her, but I was glad to hear she’s keeping well and enjoyed my letter! She also imparted some wisdom about growing up, as I’d told her my apprehensions about it. YAY!

I’m really excited to order some postcards from moo.com, particularly these designs: http://www.moo.com/designs/designers/andre_jordan

I just discovered Moo today, it’s awesome! Will be really useful for self promotion at gig nights and things, too =)

I also can’t wait to draw my own postcards on the pad of blank postcards I’ve had for ages, and buy greetings cards and write letters – I intend on doing it a lot more once I’m out on my own in London, away from everyone. =)

Heather 16 months ago

I just wrote a letter to my old neighbour Heather! Hooray! I feel so good =D I haven’t seen her for 11 years, so it was quite a long letter! Almost 3 sides of A4. I hope she can read my writing! It’s pretty neat but her eyesight might be bad. I hope she replies! I hope I don’t make her feel sad, mentioning her husband who died and she still hasn’t gotten over. But I did talk about him fondly and about how mnay great memories they both provided me with. I so hope she writes back!! How exciting!! =D

It’s kinda silly because I feel like it was a good letter, so I want to keep it, or make a copy, so I remember it, but that’s what I like about letter writing! It’s about letting go and expressing without regretting or scrutinising or reviewing every word you say. Not being self-centred and admiring your own work. Just enjoying the process and connected-ness! There is no outbox with writing letters! How retro-refreshing =D

I was catching up with a friend tonight, and we both share the idea that it’s sad just to keep in contact with friends solely through modern means – email, facebook, text messages etc. We’re going to write letters to each other once we’ve both moved away (in about a month!), birthday cards, random postcards and so on! I’ve always said I’d do that, but wondered if anyone would write back. My Grandad writes to my Aunt, his daughter (who lives in San Francisco) every single month religiously, which I think is so perfect and lovely! She never writes back – lack of time or whatever – but it’s nice that he still writes, every month. I think there’s something just great about receiving a letter, and it’s sort of therapeutic and relaxing to write one, too.

I still haven’t written to my old next door neighbour, Heather. I’m kind of scared to, I haven’t seen or heard from her directly in 11 years (my mum has though). But I just have so many great memories of her and her husband from when I was tiny that I feel like I should write, in a way just to say thanks! I’m sure she’d be happy to know I still think of her, and maybe receive a photo of me! =) I’m going to do that. Sadly I’m flying out of the country tomorrow but I will do it asap when I return! =) And I mean it! If I don’t I will be very VERY upset with myself.

Thank you notes 2 years ago

I wrote all my thank you letters by hand this year. I usually do, it’s just I didn’t last time. I might have done this year too, if my computer hadn’t broken down. But I’m glad I hand wrote them :) way more personal, even if I basically just copied the same letter numerous times… But none were exactly the same! So that’s ok.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet 2 years ago

I just wrote a letter to Jean-Pierre Jeunet, director of ‘Amelie’! =D =D YAY. I am so excited =) This is the first proper letter I’ve written since setting the goal – I did a draft and everything! It’s basically just saying how ‘Amelie’ changed my outlook on life and stopped me from being so bored all the time. Now I feel creative and full of activity mentally! I wrote a P.S: ‘Raymond Dufayel breaks my heart’. He does. I love him. He is so just… HEART-WRENCHING! Obviously, I am hoping for a reply but he must get so many letters, mostly ones similar to mine I expect! But I just had to thank him for all he’s shown me =)
I wrote on regular printer paper and just did a border – not the best thing ever, but a lot nicer than just boring ol’ papier!
I got his address online, and all the sites I looked at gave the same address, and apparently it’s for the office he often works from, so hopefully it’ll end up in his hands!
I started off the letter in French: ‘Cher M. Jeunet. Merci merci MERCI pour le film ‘Amelie’. C’est magnifique, belle! Maintenant, je parle Anglais – je suis l’Angleterre’ And then I wrote in English, because that is the extent of my French lol!

Oh yay, I feel so happy =D

I wrote my grandparents a thank-you postcard when I was in London, because they gave me some money for my exam results and I didn’t gte to speak to them before we left. It was nice, I should write more often :)
