my dad’s favorite past time is star gazing and astronomy. he is completely self-taught, but knows so much about it that he’s been asked to give guest lectures and teach through out his lifetime. anyway, when i was little, my dad took my sister and i out to a family friend’s farm. this was when we lived in Michigan. i was maybe 7 years old, and my sister was 5. the ground was covered with several feet of snow and my dad dug a human size hole in the snow and lined it with several blankets. my sister and i laid in the hole and just watched the sky and the stars. we saw bright pinks, reds, blues, and purples dance around each other. it was beautiful. that was the first and last time that i have been north enough to glimpse the northern lights. i am told that i swore up and down that within the midst of the lights, i saw an angel appear. i only have a vague recollection of it now… i can still remember the colors and the burst of orange and gold, but i can’t remember the angel. i want to go back so that maybe i can see her again.
