I got a job but... 20 months ago

I got a job, but it didn’t work out. It was only supposed to be for 15 hours/week, but they kept giving me more to do and expecting me to stay later. Plus, they assigned me a password for my e-mail, and then they were logging on as me and sending people e-mails. That is WRONG, and it makes me mad.

There has to be a better job out there for me. I just have to find it.

I DID IT! 23 months ago

I got a job! I am still in shock over the whole thing. This was another bizarre interveiw. It’s like they’d already made up their minds to hire me before I even walked through the door. They didn’t ask me any questions or ask for references or anything. Very, very weird!

I start Monday at 9:00. It’s 15 hours/week—exactly what I wanted, and it’s doing bookkeeping (also exactly what I wanted to do). I wish it was more money, but hey! I’ll take what they’re paying. Now I just hope I can do a good job, and remember everything since the last time I worked almost 2 years ago!

I didn't get the job... 2 years ago

I’m disappointed because rejection is always hard to swallow, but I’m also glad for some reason. I want to be THRILLED about a job, and this one just wasn’t doing much for me.

The lady told me I was their second choice, and the other lady got the job because she’d shopped in the store before. That is SO not fair – they never asked me that (even though I hadn’t).

Bizarre Interview... 2 years ago

I have NO idea how my interview went. It was with two older women who told me everything the job entailed and then thanked me for coming in! I got to ask two questions, but otherwise didn’t say anything except “uh-huh” as THEY were talking. They didn’t ask me ANYTHING or let me get a word in edgewise! I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone.

They let me know they’re interviewing four people; they’ll make their decision today and notify everybody tomorrow with their answer.

Who knows… maybe my new suit, hair cut and freshly-waxed brows impressed them enough?

The only other bad thing is that I felt dirty when I left. I realize it’s a thrift store, and there are lots of dirty clothes hanging in there, but I didn’t realize I’d FEEL so dirty.

Today's my interview! 2 years ago

Today I interview with St. Vincent De Paul as a full charge bookkeeper. I’m soooo nervous. Seems like I’ve been waiting for this interview forever, and now today’s the day. I’ve got a new suit and a hair cut so I think I’m ready.

Yesterday, hubby and I drove over to see the building so I’d know where I’m going today. It takes about 20 minutes to get there from home, and is mostly interstate miles. The area is a little run down, but in the daytime, I doubt it’ll be too scary.

Everybody! Keep your fingers crossed for me that I get this job!

Found another one... 2 years ago

I can’t believe I found another job to apply for: “PT Bookkepr (sic) wanted for construction company. 10-15 hours per week. Flexible schedule. Must have Quickbooks experience.” Perfect! They wanted an e-mailed résumé so I got that e-mailed to them this morning.

I already have an interview with St. Vincent De Paul the week after Thanksgiving. Maybe I can interview with this place, too, and actually have a choice about the best job for me rather than settling for the first job to come along.

The hours at both places are perfect me. Plus both have flexible schedules, and that’s nice. The SVDP job is a $300/month stipend (I guess that means a flat rate no matter how much you work…?), and the other is $12/hour which would be more money, but that’s because it’s more hours.

Now…everybody! Keep your fingers crossed for me that I’ll get called for an interview from this second place!

Finally... an interview! 2 years ago

Last week, I found four jobs to apply for. Then I waited all this week to see if anybody would call me for an interview. I was really getting discouraged and depressed. I got up enough nerve to call one of the places. The job is still open and they haven’t even started interviewing yet.

Then… not five minutes later, the phone rings and it’s this same place calling to schedule an interview with me! WHOOPPEE! The only problem is that I have to wait TWO WEEKS for the interview because the director is on vacation right now. I’d rather have an interview scheduled and have to wait instead of not knowing.

The job is with St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store for 8 hours/week—exactly what I’m looking for. And, the lady told me that I get to set my own schedule except for every other Friday, which is pay day. Perfect!

I know things happen or don’t happen for a reason, but I SO hope I get this job (and it’s everything I expected)!

Went to a staffing agency... 2 years ago

Went to Express Personnel for an interview this morning. They already had an “assignment” for me, but it was 40 hours/week, and that’s more than I want to work.

The interview went really well. They were impressed with my all of my test scores. I scored better on PowerPoint than I did Word (and I’ve never even created a single slide before!).

I’m looking for part time work with as few hours as possible. She thinks she has two options for me. The first, a guy only wanted someone to do his bookkeeping on Fridays for half a day. The other one is a work-at-home job, also doing bookkeeping for a guy who hasn’t completely moved his business to the Tri-Cities yet.

The work-at-home job sounds great… however, one of the reasons I want an part-time job is to GET OUT OF THE HOUSE! However, if I work from home, I can set my own schedule, and I can continue to volunteer. Plus, the dogs won’t have to be in their crates.

While I’m excited at the possibilities, I’m also strangely “flat” about it. I guess I’ve gotten my hopes up before, and I don’t want to do that again. I’ll just have to wait and see what happens. And, if nothing happens, at least I TRIED—this IS another outlet to finding a job. Plus, I’m still looking everyday to see what I can find on my own.

I keep checking... 2 years ago

Every day, I go through all of the classifieds and online job banks to find the perfect job. Unfortunately, it’s not out there today… I just have to remind myself to BE POSITIVE—it’s out there, I just haven’t found it yet.

New Prospect 2 years ago

I found a new prospect on craigslist.com. It’s for a part time bookkeeper—just 12 hours a week. Perfect. I called yesterday, and found out the job is still available, but the person I need to talk to won’t be there until today so I have to call back.

I’m not getting my hopes up. As a matter of fact, I’m really not sure I want this one because it’s farther than I’d like to drive.

I wish I could find a 10-15 hour-a-week job that’s close to home.

UPDATE
Called this morning and the job HAS been filled. Dangit! Back to the drawing board.
