buy new furniture

the baby’s stuff is here. there are still a few missing pieces, but nothing i need right now and i’m pretty much done with this goal. there are so many other things to take care of now. we’ve got a living room, dining room, office, baby’s room, bathrooms completed, and bedroom essentials. it took us 8 months, but we did it!

i get my son’s room together. we should be getting much of his furniture in order these next couple of weeks. it still leaves us without our own bedroom set, but we have a bed and a place for clothes and i’m not particularly anxious to get a bedroom set. once Naeem’s furniture is here, i’d want to move on to other financial endeavors. we’ll get a bedroom set eventually, but eh… i’d rather pay off my cars and go on trips. in the making already is a trip to the east coast in september, a trip to solvang (again) in october, a trip to hawaii in january, a trip to vegas in the early spring time, and a trip to the east coast again next summer. travelling is definitely a bigger priority to me than a bedroom set.

couches and dining room set on there way, still… won’t be shipped till the 26th
office almost complete, we got two desks, two book shelves, a futon, a file cabinet and an end table. also nice lamps and a few things that we’ve owned already to seal the deal. now all we want is another office chair, and perhaps an ottoman to put in front of the futon. i saw a couple of basic ones in target. we don’t have an ikea around here… but maybe next week when we’re down in the city we can check that one out and see if anything piques our interest.
i’m gonna consider washer and dryer part of the new furniture goal. we got them, the only thing is, the hookups for the dryer aren’t 30 volts. and apparently most dryers run on atleast that much nowadays. so yeah… let’s see what management has to say.

what is mostly done:
hallway bathroom
master bathroom
dining room+ when the set arrives (only extra thing i’d want is a little cabinet)
living room+ when set arrives (only extra things would be coffee table/end tables/lamps, all incredibly inexpensive in comparison to our bigger furniture)
office (except for ottoman and office chair)

rooms that need everything:
bedroom
baby’s room

and still there are things sort of getting in the way… but, whatelse is new. whenever i start a project, it tends to start off with obstacles and hinderances. but once i hall ass through it all, it all winds up worth it.

what i’m talking about is my dryer. we FINALLY bought a washer and dryer this past week. they hooked it up yesterday and lo’ behold, it does not work. it turns on. it spins. it blows out air… but the dial doesn’t turn on it’s own (so a 30 minute dry turns into a 3 hour dry if you aren’t paying attention) and oh wait… it doesn’t even get hot. so i had to call best buy today and they are sending someone over on tuesday to look at it. just when i thought we could start washing stuff. we can’t hang this outside, either, because we have terrible allergies. blankets turn into nets that catch all the flying pollens and what not just so we can bring them inside and cuddle with them at night. not happening. we can wash some stuff that we can hang dry, but we can’t wash bedding and stuff yet. poop.

BUT, part of the other awesome stuff is that we also bought a dining room set and a living room set! WOOHOO! but the order won’t come in for another couple of days. this too will also be a hassle in the first few weeks of progress because my cat needs to be declawed but the appointment isn’t until the end of june. hopefully, we might be able to postpone delivery, so that we’ll get it after she is declawed. if not, we’ll have to lock her in the office for like two weeks. which would be horrible. yeah, maybe we can call them and have the delivery postponed. it’ll be easier to move the furniture into the house when she isn’t in the house anyways. i sure hope we won’t run into any more problems, though. ::sigh:: God Bless this journey.

after that, we’ll need to get our office set, bedroom set, and baby room set along with things like lamps, end tables and coffee tables and what not so we don’t continue to live in the dark and eat off of storage racks.at least now, the main part of the house and the bathrooms are done. so we can have people over and not have to worry about places to sit and eat. this is good. oh yes, and my couch set has 4 recliners on it. ohhhhhhhh yeah. for me and my pregnant ass. SWEET!

turns out the place we were going to buy our furniture from is closing. can’t trust these furniture stores around here, they never last. hohum. hopefully we’ll find other places to grab things. slowly but surely… come on, tax returns!!!

this is our first month in the new place, so we’re dealing with all the moving bills. cancellation fees, activation fees, and with the new cars and car accidents, we’ve had to pay out all sorts of “change” fees. i got hit with my hospital bill from december (wtf) and what not. so yeah… we can’t even get what we usually get for groceries this month. no way in hell are we gonna be able to get furniture. maybe next month. hopefully that dining room set will still be around then! :fingers crossed::

so with the wonderful donations of my family, i’ve gone from living in an empty apartment to living in a place that is or will have comfortable nooks. character is building in just these short weeks. from the money my mom sent, i bought an outdoor bench that has a storage container in it. i will put it on my patio. the rules are that our apartment complex doesn’t want us to put our recycling on the patio, but i figured if i could hide the recycling well with an ornate and functional piece of furniture, i should be in the clear!

i also bought a jewelry armoire, the one i’ve always wanted. 8 draws, two side cabinets for necklaces and a mirror on top. also got my husband a safe for him to put his gun stuff so then when we have children over or children of our own, we will have a more secure place to put things like that. the rest is decorative. a bunch of candle wall sconces and bathroom accessories to finish the bathrooms off and i found this neat candelabra that would go perfectly in my master bath. the only thing i’m nervous about is the color of the oil-rubbed bronze accesories i purchased online. i don’t know if it’s the color i think it is. hard to tell cuz of the computer!

so i bought a bunch of storage furniture and a couple of decorative pieces for the bathrooms. i got a camode to go around the toilet and a wall cabinet, a storage bench and another cabinet. they are all white, to go with the paints and color scheme i’m going for. i don’t like dark bathrooms. actually, i don’t really like dark rooms, period. but i think offices can be a little darker cuz of all the computer screens and such and bedrooms can sometimes be a little darker. but i’ll finally have a place to store cleaning supplies, toilet paper, make up and body stuff.

reminder: get plastic storage containers for inside the cabinets. and make sure they’ll fit!!!

we have to move into a new apartment or buy a house. that’s the next step. we’d much rather buy a house but if all else fails, just get a nicer apartment. then we’ll start on one room at a time. for now we’ve got old family hand-me-downs with a few things we’d actually keep… like the microwave, fridge, one of the TV’s and my computer desk and chair. that’s about it!
