It was the hardest thing I ever gave up, too—as I adore chocolate. I also did not over-substitute other sweets to compensate, and I didn’t have carob or another chocolate substitute either. On Easter when I could have my beloved chocolate again, someone’s father at the church, who was a non-believer, had fallen seriously ill. I extended my chocolate fast until his recovery was complete.
It was a sacrifice I wanted to make, but not one that I relish making again anytime soon!
