bleak situation for the arts

Well, I’ve recently heard that many galleries in Toronto aren’t accepting new artists, and are actually letting some of their recently acquired artists go, due to slow sales. Some galleries have had to close. One gallery owner I spoke with said that they haven’t taken on a new artist in two and a half years. This is so discouraging. I guess the only thing I can do is keep painting, and hope that some day the economy improves. :( Pooey.

Send out submissions later this month...

The summer is horribly slow for art galleries, so I haven’t been chasing this goal yet. I plan to contact the two galleries I emailed back in June that haven’t responded yet. Silence doesn’t necessarily mean ‘no’ and I think they should let me know one way or another. One gallery in a suburb of Toronto said she’d like to see my work at the end of the summer, and it’s now the end of the summer, so I’m hoping I’ll hear from her soon. But I would also love to find a gallery in downtown Toronto!
