I want to make it as a writer, i honestly have no other goals in life.
Goals are truly relative to the person that sets them; at least they are supposed to be. Unfortunately, in modern society this is not the case. How can one truly differentiate them self by something as personal as a unique and realistic goal? Anyone who is not blinded by ignorance can see that we, as a species, have the same expectations of our fellow race. All parents have the same expectations of their offspring; all offspring have the same expectations of their parents. Thus, we form a parasitic relationship by being forced into setting unrealistic goals such as attending an “Ivy League” College or amassing great wealth. However, I have set for myself both a long term and short term goal; completely realistic goals that are untainted by the ideas and morals of others.
My long term goal is to publish a novel. I could care less if this novel is actually successful, only that it is in print. I have no intention of becoming famous off of this novel. I simply want to weave an epic tale to the best of my ability. It doesn’t matter to me if the novel sits in the most obscure shelf in an out of the way book store in the middle of a god forsaken wasteland. As long as it’s written by me, and it is a book, then it’s completely fine.
My short term goal is to graduate this institution that has been tactfully dubbed high school. High school in fact does not make people feel high and proud of them self at all. It is a place where the willing are unwilling and the unwilling are even less willing than before. In my opinion, it’s completely absurd that I have to take these asinine exams to prove my worth against the rest of my species. Don’t get me wrong, I love to learn. I love to read, I love to write, I love learning about history. However, all the joys of learning are lost when your time in school is solely spent preparing for exams such as the SATs. That’s’ why I want to get out of high school as soon as I can and further my learning in something that actually strikes my interest.
Overall, I think life goals are unrealistic and something that is easily abdicable when it becomes convenient. When I set a goal, I set it to be realistic and attainable; dreams aren’t meant to be reachable.
