I have a question 21 months ago

Hi, I am an 18yr female… and…

I have been reading once in awhile in the news about people giving transplants to other people. Ive been thinking that I would do it too if someone matches mine. My questions are:

1. Do I have to be DEAD to donate an organ?
2. If I don’t have to be dead, maybe just to donate a kidney or something else possible, what are the success rates? Will my life be affected by it? Are there any risks that I’m taking?
