At one point I was translating from English, to Spanish, to Nepali…

Losing it~ 3 months ago

I have been back from Nepal for about a week and already I am having trouble recalling certain words and phrases that before I was saying regularly! OMG… I will practice with my Nepali cd’s today… I do not want to lose the little that I gained. I need to keep going in the right direction!

I met and visited with the author of the most used Nepali language book. Chij Sir gave me two cd’s to accompany the book…I was so excited and will use this while I am here…
(BTW… he is from Bandipur!)

Note to self… PRACTICE!

Nepali Class~ 5 months ago

I’ve been meeting with my Nepali teacher and taking my Nepali lessons each day now for a month! I feel as if I do not know that much, but I definitely know more than before!

I’m feeling more comfortable trying to speak and my vocabulary has increased a lot!

I’m going to keep practicing and taking my class each day… I know eventually I will learn this beautiful and challenging language.

It’s fun to practice with my Nepali students each day…as I write my English lessons for them…I write it in Nepali as well… this helps me and them…

:)

great fun!!!!

Bole bustola…. see you tomorrow…
(spelling is wrong..completely phonetic!)

Namaste~

Bikram Sir ~ my Nepali teacher (my class overlooks the Himalayan Mountains and the sounds of exotic birds and animals combined with Nepali folk music gliding in and out…HEAVEN!)

LA to Bangkok Nepali Practice! 6 months ago

I met a nice man traveling from los Angeles to Nepal on the plane… we were sitting next to each other on the flight from LA to Bangkok. He helped me practice Nepali for a long time and it was quite fun! He was gentle and patient and I felt like a little child learning from him…

:D
it was quite fun!
and I can’t remember one thing we practiced!!!

Namaste~

~Advice on learning a language from W.J. in an internet post~ 6 months ago

“Do not go by a textbook ! I speak 3 languages and I can honestly tell you from personal experience that the best way to learn a language is to learn the culture and immerse yourself in it. Start with describing everyday things around the office (aka Practical Use) so that he is able to put a visual image from his everyday life to a saying/sentence/word etc. It may sound condescending, but this is how most children learn their first words. Also, try to encourage him to say easier phrases in English (Hi, How are you) so that the easier things become more natural to him and he can progress from there.

Me!”

Sounds like darn good advice!!! And really nice since there are not many text book resources around… Interestingly, this is exactly the same advice given to my by my very good friend C.D. who teaches ESL to adults at a college!!!!

hmmmmm…..

“Ma Nepali boldina yet.” – I don’t speak Nepali..yet!

LOL~
my bad~

:P

Nepali Classes are on the Schedule.... 6 months ago

Crikey….(is that the right way to say it?)
The Nepali classes are scheduled to begin in Bandipur…
oh….
this scares me the most! LOL~ oh well…
I’ll try my best and go easy on myself…this will certainly give me immediate empathy for my “English” students…
and I was thinking as well, that by teaching English and learning Nepali simultaneously, perhaps I could be learning through comparison all day long…explicitly…

I wonder if this will work…

just a thought~
