write a children's book

To start working on this~

Each day I read anywhere from 2-6 picture books to my class…averaging about 3. As I read, I monitor their reactions, and try to somehow evaluate what it is in the stories that makes them love some and just feel ok about some…

The books are of varying lengths and levels of reading.
They all seem to have some clear and uncomplicated message of love, acceptance, gentleness, humor, adventure, and fun in them…
many have characters who are challenged in some way but overcome their difficulty, often with the help of others…
kids love happy endings…(of course)...

just taking notes…getting ready….

I read a story to my students yesterday that was written by Madonna…it was REALLY good!!!!
It is a fourth grade level book but the kids sat silently while I read taking in every word. The message was fantastic~ about acceptance and understanding…and friendship. (We’ve been discussing that theme especially this week…so it fit perfectly…)

The book is called “The English Roses”~ I really like it!

The narrator speaks throughout the book and there’s a fairy godmother involved…quite cute!!!!!

I will purchase this one…good for counseling as well~

Today one of my students brought me a book from our school library and she said, “Ms. hg~happiness, your name is in this book!” And I thought she had found my first name in a book…so I looked at the book and to my amazement IT WAS ME ~ the book had been written by a little girl I had taught in first grade and she wrote the book when she was in third grade…(the kids publish their own books each year at our school) and she dedicated the book to me…OH…that made me SMILE!!!

I did not even know that she had done that…

NOW THAT IS SWEET!!!!!!!

Perhaps after my thesis I will have time to think about this goal~
