After two years and 3,000 hours of counseling with different populations (individual, couples, children, family, group etc.) we are eligible to submit our hours to the Board of Behavioral Sciences. Once the hours are accepted we are able to make application to sit for our licensing exam to become a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
I’ve been working on all this since before my graduation, first as a trainee and then an intern….I now just have to get all my hours written down and signed by my supervisors… :D
BUT NOW ~ the state of California has recently passed a law that acknowledges and allows LPCC ~ Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (which are therapist who can be found all across the USA, but CA was not allowing them until this recent law passed.) I am going to go for both licenses because I think it’s a good thing to have both! My cohort and I are lucky because we are able to “grandfather’ in to this license because we went to school and graduated within the specified time frame… which makes it even ‘better’!
Now… I have a lot of work to do to get all my paperwork together and submitted for both licenses… in between all my other ‘stuff’!
Crazy, but I love it and will love it even more once I have a couple of these on my wall!
:)
