On Hold

Since I’m in Pennsylvania, and my machine is in California, I’m not making much progress on this right now. So, putting it on hold. :)

Basic Sewing Functions: Mastered!

Last week, I set up my new machine, and sewed my first project! The skirt pictured above. I am REALLY happy with the way it turned out – so much so that I’ve already worn it more than once. It was a very simple project, and I really didn’t even sew most of it on the new sewing machine (since all the inside seams were done on the serger). But, in order to do the waist and hem I had to learn how to turn the machine on, fill bobbins, thread the bobbin and the needle, and get the thing to sew. It was all pretty easy – and wow, this machine has some nice features. Like an automatic needle threader, and it cuts the thread for me at the touch of a button when I’ve finished a seam. Pretty darned cool.

Next, I need to decide on an embroidery project! I think I’ll sew some flowers onto a pair of yoga pants. :)

My New Toy!

Last weekend, I splurged a bit and bought myself a new toy with some of the money my dad left me when he died. I needed a new sewing machine anyway, since my old one (which I’d had for about 20 years) just wasn’t working properly anymore. And when I went to look at machines and saw the nifty embroidery some of them could do . . . well, I’m going to have a lot of fun with this, once I figure out how to use it. I haven’t even opened up the box yet, but I hope to have some time to do that today! :)
