One of the last things I did before I left my Mom's house tonight

was to take a bunch (and I mean a whole bunch) of her aloe plants from her back yard. Aloe is really no big deal, it does flower pretty in the spring, but for some reason I wanted to have a bit of my Mom’s yard in my yard. There is still plenty left for the new owners. I doubt they will miss what I took, even though it was a lot. Aloe is one of the few things that she grew in abundance and didn’t kill it. She never had much of a green thumb.

I have such mixed feeling about that house. It wasn’t an especially happy place for me to grow up in, but it was “home base” for a long time.

I will plant the aloe in my yard tomorrow. It just seemed like a thing that I wanted to do.

I think I can safely say that we are out of the 110+ temperatures

I dared to plant flowers today.

The weather did me in . . . and my gardens

but right now it is 11:00 and only 81 degrees out. It is going to maybe be under 100 until the weeekend, when of course they are predicting 100 degree weather again. I so however, think we are out of the 110+ degree weather which is the point where it becomes pointless to try and maintain anything.

I am looking forward to jumping back into this goal again.

I so wish I was doing this right now

but we have been having such terribly hot weather (110 – 115 degree highs) that I can do nothing by just water and pray that nothing more dies than already has. This summer just seems like it will never ever end.

I was pulling weeds last night

I thought I was going to pass out for a minute. Waaaaaay too hot and humid right now.

I have a big plan

but it is too hot to implement it right now. I want to plant some things in a specirfic area, but I am afraid that they will not make it in the current oppressive heat.

I have a big plan though and it’s a good one!!!

It is oppressively hot right now (over 110 most days)

Right now I am doing good just to keep everything alive. The summer isn’t even half over. We will be ridiculously hot until October.

I think there are days . . .

when this keeps me sane!

I worked for a really long time today

mostly in the front yard. I scored a massive deal at Wallymart in the garden department. They had a ton of clearance items that were smokin’ deals. I got petunias, geraniums and Gerbera daisy ranging in price from .59 to 2.25. They were all 1/2 or more off the original price.

My front flower bed is now full of petunias and weed free. Front porch swept off and newly planted geraniums and gerbera daisys planted in pots.

Some of the geramiums and daisys went to the back yard, but my focus was mostly on the porch today. It loks so much better and way more inviting. Of course I have the big no solicitors/no saving our souls sign out front so I am not sure who I am making it inviting for, but it is inviting!!!

Finally

There are still only 9 Cannas poking through now, maybe the other 3 are just duds. The lady did give me 4 extra jusat in case I had only originally planned for 8 so I am 1 ahead of the original plan. I am trying to figure out rtight now what kind of ground cover I want to fil in around them. Still lots of blank space that I need to take care of. This ois the area along the pool wall that I want to have a very tropical feel to it. So I need something that flowers.

The alyssum seeds have sprouted and now they are staring to flower as well. I am so happy. This is all in the backyard. I have pretty much ignored the front yard this year except for just regular maintenance. I really want to focus on the backyard. That is where Mr. HC and I spend all our outside time with the dogs.

I need to get some of this one kind of plant for the Koi pond. I can’t think what it is called, but it helps them stay a little cooler in the summer. The place I have to go is clear in east Mesa. I might be able to get over there next week.

I am so pleaed with my gardens right now!!! Need to post photos soon!!!
