I really wish I did not have a need for a car, but I am about a 3 hour drive away from the nearest suburb-like city (with a McDonalds). I am working on establishing an organic garden. I spend a lot of time canning. I’m just not to the point yet where I can be self sufficient without a car. It is not practical to carpool where I am, because everyone lives so far apart and people like to keep to themselves. I do order a lot from the internet and can walk to my post office. I ride my bicycle for enjoyment. This is definately a plan in progress. When I lived in the city, I used public transit and rented a car when I wanted to go out of town. Saved lots of money that way. In Seattle, there is a great car sharing program. www.flexcar.com
