spend more time at the art studio

And I always feel good when I’m there. People are doing what they love and you can tell. They’re friendly and happy to be there. And my instructor is totally goofy. He’s so weird! In a good way. :) Like tonight a song came on that he liked and he started busting out the most awful dance moves ever. And he’s got funny hair. He’s always running his hands through it and then it sticks straight up in the air. Anyway, I started learning Photoshop the first week, the second week I learned how to do photo transfers, and last week we created cyanotypes. But this week was the best! This week I made a silk screen print! And put it on a T-shirt! And it’s awesome! It’s so awesome that I want to get a T-shirt in every color and bring them back next week so I can work the hell out of my totally awesome silk screen. I love my T-shirt! Did I mention it was awesome? :D

Not just for the creativity happening everywhere, but for the people too. I felt like I belonged there and I could open up and be myself. It’s like a community there. You see the same people coming and going week to week, and they smile and say hello and one day start telling you about the people they love. My instructor told me all about his grandfather, the reason he moved here, to be close to him and help take care of him. A classmate shared her secret love affair with me, and I told her my secret too. I met a dog who was dying, who came to the studio every day with her owner, until one day he had to come without her. I learned about more than art.

There’s a digital class I’d love to take where I can learn Photoshop and screen printing, but there might not be an opening. If there isn’t, I’ll take the alternative materials painting class. I called just in time because all the new classes are starting next week. I’m happy to be going back. Plus they play really cool music there. Like The Magnetic Fields. And Neutral Milk Hotel. :)
