So I have started boxing things up to go in storage. Why? I’m getting a house!
However, for the first year, I am renting it out to my sister while she works on building her own house nearby. This gives me a whole year to box up the extra stuff I have that I will not use during the next year and to sort out all the things I don’t need. This works out just perfectly; plus I grew up playing in the house I am buying. Dream come true.
Today I can’t help but to wonder how I can fit so much junk in my apartment. I’ve got another 3 boxes of things to get rid of. Still have much more to go through but I’ll feel so much better once I get these boxes out of my living room. So far since I’ve started the declutter process I’ve gotten rid of over 15 boxes of built up misc items. I’m impressed I ever had room for it all and still have room to move around because this is only a one bedroom apartment. But I’m far from done here. During the next two weeks, I’m going on a cleaning spree so that when Spring hits – my Spring cleaning will be a breeze!
I’ve gotten behind on my cleaning. I did work on clearing up my storage room where I got rid of a car load of stuff. So, that I’m proud about. However, I have slacked off when it comes to my apartment. I’ve taken a couple of boxes up to the storage room for my collectibles that are just taking up room. What I really need to do is clear out my closet and clean up my clothes. I own way too many shirts. I also need to work on straightening up the kitchen and seeing if I should get rid of items I don’t need in there. sigh So much to do! I don’t even want to think about cleaning the living room for the coming holiday season!
Well, we finished the garage sale! I made just over $150! It seems I had way more junk then I realized! lol. Total family made about $580 all together. So wow! And of course, I’ve already spent most of my earnings. I’m not even sure how I did that as I was trying to save it. I knew I should have gone straight to the bank with it!
With all the clutter I’ve been clearing away in the last year, we are having a garage sale next weekend. Spent this weekend sorting through the boxes and making sure all things were priced. Its amazing just how much stuff I managed to shove into my apartment. Some things I almost want to go back through and maybe keep things – but I know I don’t need the items. I don’t have room for them and I can always buy replacements when I have a house. It really is testing my will power but I will make it. But I will make it and anything that doesn’t sell will be donated to the local resale hospice shop. Then I just need to make sure the money earned isn’t used to buy more junk – it will go toward paying for a class I want to take on learning to do stain glass projects from the local stain glass gift shop. :)
So taking on large spaces, like a whole room, doesn’t work real well for me when cleaning. So I’m working on clearing one area a day. So the first day I cleaned up a shelf on my bookshelf. The next I cleaned up onto of the dresser. The next another shelf on the book shelf. Then I cleaned out a plastic tub that I couldn’t even remember what it had in it – got rid of a lot of what was inside. Another day I cleaned a shelf in the fridge. Spent two days doing my desk – which still needs some work.
This is really making a big difference for me. This way I am feeling like I am really clearing out clutter without overwhelming myself. Glad I started this! Today I think I will clean around my sofa.
I’ve been actually working on this for a while, but didn’t think to add it as a goal until now on here. I really want to completely clear out all the old junk from my apartment and only keep what I need or really want. Its hard – but it must be done. I’ve just got too much stuff for me to live as simply as I would like. So today is step one – Clear out around my desk.
