And here's the poopdeck, where I wasn't supposed to be. 2 years ago

Nothing much actually. This is where they had all their radio equipment hidden. The wansies.

View from the helm 2 years ago

The helms of these earlier period, caravels, were not on the poopdeck with a wheel mechanism, but under the poopdeck with a large rudder arm.

Fortunately I do happen to know 2 years ago

how to operate all that rigging. Now to train a crew to do the same, that’s a different story.

Another view from up on the poopdeck 2 years ago

Lots and lots of rigging

I wonder how much it would cost me to have someone build one of these? 2 years ago

When we first got on board, I said the first item of buisiness that would have to happen if we were to have control of this vessel would be to outfit it with about eight cannons. Now that would be sweet!

I took this picture 2 years ago

and its accompanying video from up on the edge of the poopdeck, where I wasn’t really supposed to be.

More of the Nina 2 years ago

tall masts

Which we “commandeered” for a couple of hours. The other patrons thought that we were the actual crew, as the real crew only wore t-shirts that said “Nina” on them.

It looks like this is as close as I'm gonna get for a while 2 years ago

Until I can afford someone who knows what they’re doing to build me a ship. That will be quite a money maker as we go from port to port, charging people to go on tour of a privateer vessel. Yes, we would portray privateers, the legal sort of pirates with the letter of marque from a king to aid in a wartime situation. They were kind of like naval mercs.

The Nina came here last week while we were already having a reenactment, so of course we went there in period costume.

Here’s an excellent song of pirating , from that full throated, Canadian, folk band, Tanglefoot.

Just for the pure heck of it, 3 years ago

I looked on e-bay to see if there were any tall ships for sale. There weren’t any :-( So I put up a post for more heck of it and curiosity. What I did find out is that I can easily afford a modern style two masted salboat of about 40 feet or so. But that’s not what I want. I want something to make me money giving ship tours while I have my fun.
