Reclaim my front yard

A minor glitch, but until I fix it, I won’t be able to finish this job. As I get farther along the hill thatI have to fill in is steeper, so it takes alot more dirt just to go a little way. I’m at about half the distance I want to reach, but probably at only 1/8th the dirt I have to fill in. Probably one good full day to work on filling it in.

Then I can smooth it all out, throw some better soil on top, spread some seed, and I can call this goal done.

They rebuilt our road. In so doing they raised the road four feet. This took away the ditch we had, and turned the front yard into a swamp, that would not be mowed or taken care of well at all. It has looked like crap since then.

But once again, thanks to my handy dandy big Tonka toy, the backhoe, I am in the process of changing that. My Grandpa built our barn into the side of a hill which means I have been battling a problem of ground rot. The barn needs to be rebuilt sometime in the near future. When I build it I’ll be darned if I’m gonna rebuild it in the side of the hill again. I’m in the process of removing the hill from behind it.

Well, all that dirt needs to go somewhere, so I’m putting it in the front yard, thus recreating both the front yard and the ditch. On top of this dirt I will spread some three year old cow manure. Since I recently had to buy new tires for the backhoe, the old ones will be cut and painted and placed in my new, reclaimed front yard as planters. Maybe I’ll put in strawberries. It will look nice again.
