took one that backfired... 2 years ago

i pulled a small, fast light aircraft out to do a takeoff immediately after a slower one on touch and go with a medium liner on final: and while the first two got up and away with no problem, i had to make the liner pull up and go around. not cool.

it worked out: as in, no conflict, but the big guy did have to go around which sucks huge. oh well, never know til you try. my mentor says it should have worked.

does a calculated chance count? 2 years ago

I am chancing growing my hair as a contributing factor to success in the near future? -it means a lot to me, i haven’t had hair in at least 7 years.

took a chance today looking for my icelandic accomplice. i really hope this doesn’t come to bite me in the behind.

took one today. 2 years ago

i tried to sneak a little cessna in between two piper cherokees in a circuit, didn’t really work. i had a separation loss with respect to altitude. counts as an incident, but they didn’t come anywhere near close enough to collide. all in all, it was too big a deal, but it probably was a chance taken that should’ve been avoided.

I have decided to buy a SMART car, hence…
anyway, financially I can afford it, but I would like to have more to go around, -who wouldn’t. I have already decided to do it, which pragmatically speaking, is a bit of a risk, however I’ve decided that it doesnt bother me. I have had a lot of things in my life disrupted because of technicalities, or circumstances, or inconveniences, and I find i to be perfectly enfuriating. It makes me feel powerless, so here we go…

took another chance today. 3 years ago

didnt work out that well im afraid. my room mate and i haven’t been getting along so well. so when i got home from work today, my other room mate, the female one, said that the three of us should go out tonight. -which has never happened before.

anywho, it resulted in some people getting ditched which i would rather not have, but -its kinda boring, i feel bad for having gone out the three of us and it not totally working out. oh well.

i took 3 today. 3 years ago

so yeah, i was playing risk with my brother and my room mate. i know, its nerdy, but hey thats how i roll.

anyway, i ended up taking three major chances (or “risks” if you will) two ended up bad, the last of which lost me the game. those times, i ended up losing two major battles against my brother’s numerically superior force.

the successful one, was against my room mate, and paid off, a 50/50 or one on one roll that resulted in my conquering africa, yay. i know its lame.

good memories... 3 years ago

this is a poem (is it?) i wrote years ago when i was in the military, about uh…

well its about depression, and life’s obstacles. but i guess at the time i had a bit of a one track mind, so its also a little about flying aircraft. here goes:
“Why didn’t I just ease off?” Inevitably,
your nose drops, and you struggle to pull out of the deadly descent.
Negative feelings envelop your entire body, and you
loose your sense of bearing. All the signs are there; and if
you don’t do something to adjust your situation, you are as good as dead.
Tokens of contrition are not as few and far between as many
would like, and the application of such things can be necessary
to level things off. Spoilers and air breaks slow the speed of
your downfall, while flaps will increase the critical angle of
attack, and let you continue at a slower stall speed.
wake. A simple trailing air mass can quickly slip into
conversations to haunt you. These kinds of resulting vortices
also trail back and disrupt your stabilizing section, leading
you into greater difficulty than before! Sometimes all you
need to do is take a little pressure off the situation.
Trimming things a little can be a big help in the recovery of
composure, and, much to the bewilderment of the norm, it
requires only minor changes to your attitude.
proceed very cautiously, or have total control over the yoke,
the only way out is through.

Unfortunately, physics are physics, and unless we

this doesnt always work 3 years ago

i was looking through my list of “things” and came across the old, -hey! take a chance. for some reason i was reminded of one time i took a chance that didnt work out that well. -some time ago when my old unit was doing training wargames. i decided to go out and scout a relatively quiet section of field outside the brush where we had set up camp. three of the officers on the opposing side (outmassing me by about 400 pounds total) checked me and then hog-tied me up in a tree in my newly mapped field. a good half hour later, now down from the tree, -i reflected on how much blood my feet had missed.
