get a visual communications degree

I thought, when I moved up here, that I’d be done in 15 months. Done done done. Nope. I’m pretty much extending my graduation by 6 months and I feel like a total idiot.

People have been trying to comfort me by telling me it’s not when I get there, it’s how I get there. I’m trying to stay in that mindset but it’s not really working.

Already in the 3rd week of the 2nd quarter. Time seriously just runs off when school’s in progress. I’m still working hard, but it seems I’ve lost a bit of focus. I am going to get a grip, though. I am going to shape up starting right now. This weekend, I plan to draw up schedules of when I need to do what and mark reminders of when out-of-towners are visiting. I also need to mark of reminders of celebrations/events I said I’d attend so I make sure all my work (or most of it) is done by the time I need to host people or attend something!

I can do it! At the same time, I need to pencil in time to enjoy this glorious city! What’s the point of living in San Francisco if I’m not out there exploring it? That’s why I was so eager to leave the island…so I could finally branch out and find more opportunities for adventure and exploration. So I better get on that goal fast. :)

Well I am almost done with my first 10 weeks of my design school! Wow! 4 more quarters to go. Time does zoom by, doesn’t it? Crazyness!!!

I’m learning so much. I apparently don’t have innate design ability but I think I can learn and work at it. I have to. This is what I want to do. I know I have some skill somewhere. I sure hope so!!! :D

I already registered for classes next quarter. I’m taking 5 :( and that’ll be insane. I’ve never worked so hard in my life for anything academic as much as now. It feels great but it also so weird!!!

Well, I’ve gotten the housing taken care of earlier this month. YAY!!! :) I’ll call to confirm next month and again before I leave. I’ve also filled out my pain-in-the-arse financial aid documents and sent them all in. Wonderful. :D I’m excited because it was SUCH a relief to complete them. That was done last week. What’s left? Buying my ticket to California. :D I’m worried about money issues, though. I need to sit down and draw up a realistic budget plan.

I realised that with this degree, I could have lots of opportunities in Hong Kong, a fashion mecca of Asia and one of the most fashionable cities of the world. It would be AWESOME. :D And talk about great experience. :D I’m so excited! squee

the moment I flipped onto the page that said “Visual Communications” in the FIDM catalog. I read the description and I was just “this is it. this is what design field i want to go into.” because up till then, i knew i wanted design but not what specifically, be it fashion or furniture or web.
