I was not born in this frozen, lifeless, oil-spewing tornado belt. I began my life in the east coast of Canada, until my poor father was uprooted by his company and taken out here. The climate is harsh, the people aren’t as friendly and the economy is teetering on that filthy, unsustainable oil.
All that aside, I’m probably stuck here for a while. I will be attending University here, as I realize that I cannot afford to move away just yet. Live and home and buy a bus pass, or make a break for freedom and be saddled with tens of thousands of extra debt? I so hopelessly sensible sometimes.
That said, I will be finished with my degree in five years. And I don’t intend to waste a computer science degree sucking oil out of the ground. Freedom will be mine!
