Hopefully this is a little snag to my son’s college career goals. After a Halloween Party on the U of T campus, my son was beat up rather badly. He needed emergency reconstructive surgery around his eye. His grades and high spirits fell for a few weeks. He ended up his first semester at the big school with a 2.146 GPA….compared to the 3.56 that he went in there with.
His vision is now clear, his optimism is back and he is getting ready to tackle the next semester when he goes back in two weeks.
I’m still angry and bitter over the incident and the 3 criminals that jumped him and got away. I’m trying not to hover and make him nervous or fill him with self-doubt. I’m praying that he fully recovers physically, mentally and spiritually.

My son was accepted to the University of Texas in Austin. Actually he was accepted at all of the schools he applied for, but UT was his top choice. It is unbelievable to me that a teen with a lackluster GPA in high school wakes up one day and decided to really push himself. He REALLY pushed himself….I can’t say anything to discourage him….but just how long can he sustain this academic furvor….and how am I going to pay for it? That will be a new “thing” on my list: Find money to pay for college! He’s IN….He’s doing the work…..but for how long? It’s like a dream. Things are falling in place!

My son was accepted to his top choice University! University of Texas. With A’s in all classes except three, great essays, numerous reference letters and daily visits to the library my son will go to Austin Texas this fall. It is so rewarding to see him glow with pride.
We’ve got enough saved to get him through the first year tuition and dorm.
Great things happen with dedication and hard work.
As long as he does his part to learn and advance, I will work to pay the bills.

My son is getting straight A’s in college! One day the heavens opened, an angel came down and tapped my son on the shoulder and he was suddenly enlightened.
I don’t know what happened. He asks his friend, “what library do you want to go to?” Not what movie, video game or coffee shop.
He suddenly is aiming for one of the best public school in Texas
and I hope he gets there. We will know more in June.

Today my son told me: “I can’t expect the professor to hold my hand. They are there to facilitate learning. We have to study and learn the material before we get to class so we can share what we learned.”
This is from the high school kid that was ranked 250 in a class of 500.
He is in Jr. college now…..aiming for a selective University.
If only I can pay the bills and he stays motivated will this goal be achieved!
This is showing progress. I am proud!

My son has had one grade posted to his transcript for his first college semester. He got an A….so he officially has a 4.0 average…..for now, at least….LOL LOL….the other classes won’t be posting grades for a few days.
