I am obsessed with mosaics: the tile floors in ancient places like Pompeii and Thessaloniki, the Byzantine golds in Sicilian churches, the elaborate designs in mosques. I took a class last year and created a geometric pattern—a sunburst with a Romanesque edge. I just wish this was a craft I could take along with me like crocheting.
