After lots of chasing, I have finally got the final few comments back from my supervisors and resubmitted the paper last Thursday. Down to reviewers again now…
Feedback from the 2nd journal came through this week. Very positive overall (in fact the first referee’s opening line was “this is a great paper”) but there are a few changes to make before the editors will accept it.
My changes are made… just waiting for a couple of edits from one of my former supervisors and we should be good to go!
The revised paper is now resubmitted!!
The word-cutting process was a tough but worthwhile exercise as I think the paper is now more focussed. It’s amazing how much you can cut out without losing any important details.
Big tip for anyone else who has to drastically cut the word count on their paper/ essay/ report: ask someone you trust to read it and cut out any superfluous words/ details (and ask them to be brutal). It’s easier to edit someone else’s work because you are not so precious about the words. (You can always offer to return the favour.)
It’s just after midnight and I have finally got the wordcount down below the “strictly enforced” 8000 word limit (7999!). The manuscript is now in the hands of my supervisor and should be submitted (again) within a couple of days.
(Fingers crossed for nicer referees this time)
OK, so I have now identified another journal and I have been busy reformatting which, in this case, mainly means trying to cut the word count down by ~30%. Finding it pretty difficult to slash away at my carefully-crafted words but I’m getting there with a little help from my co-author. Only another 300 to go and then I’ll be ready to resubmit.
This entry is a little overdue, but here goes:
I had 3 sets of reviewers’ comments back: 2 were positive on the whole with a few minor things to tweak and change, but the 3rd took a disliking to my work and recommended not to accept it for publication.
I’m now looking round for alternative Journals and “looking forward” to reformatting… :(
Hi All, I’m happy to report that I have now submitted my first paper for publication.
This went in at the end of last week and is now being reviewed by the editors etc. I’m predicting that there will still be some revisions to make, as we are aiming for a journal with a high impact factor, but it is a pretty big milestone nonetheless.
Will leave another entry when I have some more news.
I have been working on my first paper for a couple of months now after finishing my PhD in Feb this year.
It’s been pretty tough getting motivated to do this alongside a full time job which is fairly un-related but I can almost see the end in sight now.
I’m hoping 43 things will help me to get this ticked off.
