to market, to market - sell unwanted things

Over the past month, we have sold:

~ D’s brothers car – $2500
~ some tupperware – $25
~ pair of shoes – $10

We were especially surprised to sell the car so quickly but were grateful to have that cash to pay for some unexpected bills that came in.

D has some virtually unworn jeans in the closet which he’s not likely to ever wear so we decided to put them on gumtree for sale and within 20mins I got a call from a guy interstate wanting the Calvin Klein jeans. He sent me monies via Paypal including postage & within another half hour, I’d posted them.

Sold a really nice Freedom Furniture Coat Stand/Hat Rack last weekend. Another $50 bucks in the travel piggy.

There’s a never-ending array of things to get rid of here. Things we don’t want but things we don’t want to just ‘give away’ either.

So, a new list of items “For Sale” has emerged. It took me 2 hours to take photos and list everything on the internet to sell over the weekend.

We even listed D’s brother’s car for sale!

Fingers crossed we get some bites and some serious buyers.

Well, my beloved retro red chairs have left the building!

5 years ago I picked up a couple of very groovy armchairs upholstered in bright red fabric at a Garage Sale. I fell in love with them instantly and scored a deal, buying them for just $80 the pair!

On Wednesday night, I sold them to a lady for $120 the pair.

Sad to see them go but we had to make room for the new sofa! :-)

Got a call from a guy this afternoon about a pair of specialist men’s outdoor shoes D got me to list for sale on gumtree for him.

He said his wife would be round to get them on his behalf.

She turned up and said they’d be way too small for her husband BUT….I sold her a pair of shoes I had for sale instead!!! :-D

Another $20 in the kitty.

We’ve had an Olympus digital lens on the internet for sale for about 4months now and hardly a bite of interest. In the past 2wks though, several people have contacted us making ridiculous offers!

Then, on Monday night an elderly man who happens to live just around the corner made contact and came to buy it immediately – no negotiation. Happy to pay the sale price – $150.00 cash. Yay!

If we had another dozen camera lenses, we’d be well on our way to a healthy bank account.

We listed a Canon Digital Lens on the internet to sell and within an hour, we had over 57hits on it plus 14 people wanting to buy it!

To be fair, we sold it to the first person who ‘phoned’ us and offered to transfer the money to our account if we shipped it registered post. $220 in the bank and it was a done deal!

The travel savings have increased yet again with 4 sales being made from our internet ads over the past week:

- 1 dinnerset (sold for $35 just this morning!)
- 1 pr of hiking pants (sold for $35)
- 2 prs of fishing waders (sold for $70)

Might need to bank some of this excess cash now; just in case of that temptation to spend!

Almost every day this week, we’ve sold something – really bizarre as it happens whenever I begin to think the ads aren’t working.

At lunchtime today, D met with a guy in the carpark at his workplace to sell him some fishing gear.(that’s another $65 in the travel kitty).
