I’m still in University (Structural Engineering), and in my last year…

In addition to what vivace said below, being a good engineer is not only knowing what you need to know for proper design, but also knowing when you don’t know something, and when to ask for help (I’ve learnt that quite often from my internship). And always keeping in mind, that the safety of the public what is most important.
