I think that I have perhaps under-estimated myself in the past re. my listening capabilities. Recently, it’s struck me how few people really listen when you’re talking to them – the glance at the watch, the mask of boredom, the waiver of interest. And I don’t think that this is just down to my conversational skills – I’ve watched other people communicating and it’s rife.

Now I try to observe the rule in the header instead of offering my penny’s worth automatically. Consequently, I am learning a lot more.
