I’ve been taking the spirinolactone for three weeks now and my skin is all clear! It works really well, but I did play with my dosage quite a bit. I’ve only been taking 25 mg a day – half in the moring, half in the evening and it’s still working. I might just cut back to the morning pill and see if it still works. I wouldn’t recommend this for everyone. Definitely do your homework before taking and listen to what your body is telling you especially if you are prescribed a high dose. My dermatologist normally prescribes 100 mg a day, it’s hard for me to believe that people can tolerate that amount.

I decided to start taking low dose Spirinolactone 25mg twice a day. You’re not supposed to see results for at least two months, but I swear I can already see a difference. Inflammation is gone, my acne is healing and I am not oily at all – even when I wake up in the morning.
I’ve been using Clean & Clear Acne face wash and it was really drying out my skin and making me red and itchy. So last night I bought some Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Stress Control cleansing cream and Wow! do I love this stuff. It’s very light, makes my skin feel really soft and has gotten rid of the itchy redness. Plus it smells really good. It does contain AHA so must wear sunscreen.
I saw a dermatologist today. He told me that my acne was hormonal and prescribed Spirinolactone which is a actually a diuretic and high blood pressure medication, but also happens to block androgen hormones and will clear hormonal acne in women. Hm. I’ve spent the last hour reading up on this drug and reading the 897 reviews on acne.org. Sounds like it is pretty effective, but not sure about the side effects.
My number one goal for this year. I actually started working on this goal in December by doing a detoxing cleanse, taking an antioxidant multi-vitamin, omega 3-6-9 and chasteberry herbs to balance my hormones. I feel great, but my skin is still breaking out – not as bad as it was though. I’ve tried tons of OTC products, but they are so harsh and just end up irritating and drying out my skin. Now I am just washing my face twice a day and not putting on any lotion or makeup. Recently started doing a once a week oatmeal, honey, lemon facial (great for absorbing oil and exfoliating) and a twice a week yogurt, honey, lemon facial. My skin really likes these!
