I’ve been following stories about the cartoon protests in the middle east, in which, per CNN “Tens of thousands of Muslims around the world have staged new rounds of protests - some resulting in deaths - over published cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed.” Now remember in 1989 Ayatollah Khomeini called on Muslims to kill British author Salman Rushdie for blasphemy in ‘The Satanic Verses.’

Seriously, religion cannot be psychologically healthy. People have died over A COMIC STRIP. Ok, an offensive comic. Hmm… to me, this is less offensive than comments like:

“We know who the homicidal maniacs are. They are the ones cheering and dancing right now. We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren’t punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That’s war. And this is war.”

followed up with

“To The People Of Islam: Just think: If we’d invaded your countries, killed your leaders and converted you to Christianity YOU’D ALL BE OPENING CHRISTMAS PRESENTS RIGHT ABOUT NOW! Merry Christmas.”

You don’t get happiness from her cohorts (Hannity, Savage, etc) so why aren’t they the targets of similar riots and violence? Calling for the forced conversion of entire Islamic nations to another religion has to be a wee more offensive than a comic.

So… I just don’t get it. And right now its kind of hard not to be cynical about it since this is really serious.

These riots are now being categorized as Christian vs. Muslim. That’s INSANE. I don’t see how people can not get that. Its a f—king comic, people! But even if it wasn’t, I find it hard to believe that ANY of the worlds religious texts approve of this kind of action.
